January 23, 2015

My personal traits as a person that I chose were creativity, engaging, and respectful. these traits came out in my final project.

Creativity in the sense of the way that we designed the project, they layout the animations and the process of organizing what we wanted to convey in our instructional video.

Engaging, this is something that we both designed, we added the text for people who can read and need to see the text; also if they would like to use it in their own documentation. We added the audio so that it is friendly for younger children and people who are audio learners.

Respect, respect is important to me, I respect the information and the validity of it, we learned the process from our elders and parents and verified the information with my mother before we used any of it. Because we respect the traditional knowledge that we are going to putting up on Youtube for the world to see.

This project has been trying at times, but it is something that is of value for myself and future generations. When you live in an environment that is harsh as ours and a garment of clothing is the only thing that keeps you from freezing I think the right steps in making that piece of clothing is important. I tried to keep the assignment as direct and neat as possible.

Reflecting on how this course has been for me, I have had to adapt to so many different elements that I have gotten used to from our other teachers. The evaluation and criteria has had me all frazzled, I need more structure as a student. I need to know what to expect, what I need to put out, and how well I did it. I think that this is the basis for evaluation as a teacher. How we evaluate our students should have meaning and should be present and recorded because we have to be able to provide our student, their parents, and our supervisors with sound documentation of a child's learning.

Journal January 22, 2015

This morning I'm very tired. my children were tired too it took everything we had to get ourselves out of the house this morning.  I think sitting at a screen all day long and even in the evening has me worn out this is a major project. last night we were on the phone with my mom verifying some information. I'm surprised that there has never been any documentation about this since there have been fur production courses in the past. or maybe there is maybe I never used the right words on google.

Today, I would love to put on the finishing touches on our project so that we can work on our resources and credits. I will email my mom today to make sure we have verified all our documents are true. I think our project needs more pictures so this afternoon we will go and take picture of our elders with finished caribou skin products. It should be fun! I have to say I have enjoyed doing this project with me best friend Casie, we work well off of each other and together as well.

Journal January 20, 2015

I thought I might never get out of bed. I was sick for a few days with the flu. I'm glad I'm up and about again. The project is going well Casie added most of the information we need and I added the animations and transitions, we work to each other's advantages and co-operate well together. I'm happy to have a partner like her. I Look forward to wrapping up this project it was a great experience. Even if I complained a lot in the process.

Today is a new day. I have been frustrated about my grade for assignment 2. this weekend I will work on improving my assignment so I can get a better grade. I am an 80's average student so the 65 has me in a downward spiral. Frustration, and confusion has had me trying to think where I could have gone wrong. I will work through the project looking at the anecdotal comments to improve the project.

The whole daycare incident has had me contemplating weather or not I should be on the board. I don't have confidence in our staff, and it seems like a huge liability issue; since we as the board could be held accountable had the outcome been worse.

The final project seems to be taking shape. It is one subject that I feel passionately about, it also is a cultural based project; which i feel the Netsilik school very good at. They have a lot of cultural based programs including an annual caribou hunt, they have students clean skins. So I feel like the content is relavent to our community. I would really like to take pictures of how to prepare skins so this weekend I'm going to thaw out a raw skin to take pictures and videos of that process. I think Casie and I will be working it together time permitting. We have most of our dialog done, and next week would should be ready to start pulling everything together and putting it on PowerPoint usually I find ironing out the details takes the longest.

Journal January 14, 2015

The final assignment has me thinking it would be nice to take pictures of an elders preparing skins since they are the experts. I'm excited about this project since I know the basics about this and hope to learn more about it.

Here is a list of elders I think would be willing to do this:
Mary Ittunga
Bernadette Uttaq
Sarah Takolik
Philomina Totalik
I better ask Casie which elder she would like to interview.
